Ben Chapman, Ambassador Vu Quang Minh, Warwick Morris, Paul Smith and Le Thanh Dung (Chief Representative of Vietnam Airlines in the UK) at the meeting with the Rt Hon Hugo Swire MP, Minister of States for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs.
The Minister said the creation of the Network is timely and absolutely right. He applauded the Network’s mission and endorsed its activities. After the meeting, the Minister’s office sent the Network the following endorsement statement: “I fully support the establishment of the Vietnam-UK Network, an umbrella body which brings together existing friendships and organisations, for example in the fields of community, professional and student relations. The UK’s relationship with Vietnam has continued to strengthen since the signing of the Strategic Partnership in 2010, with series of visits in both directions, including by William Hague in 2012, the first UK Foreign Minister to visit Viet Nam since 1994, and the visit of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam to the UK in January 2013. I am pleased that in the 40th year of diplomatic relations our relationship continues to go from strength to strength. I believe the Vietnam-UK Network can play an important role to further deepen the links between our two countries, in particular, people to people ties across education, culture, and business. With a growing and young population, Vietnam is an exciting market for the UK. I wish the Network every success for the future and look forward to working with them.”
