Mon 3 rd Oct
David Priestley arrives in Hanoi and joins the meeting between Mrs Eleanor Laing MP, Deputy Speaker, House of Commons, and Mrs Tong Thi Phong, Vice Chairperson, National Assembly, as well as Mrs Phong’s dinner in honour of Mrs Laing. Check into Govt Guesthouse.

Tue 4 th Oct
18.30 – David Priestley attends dinner given by HE the British Ambassador Giles Lever at his Residence in honour of Mrs Laing.

20.10 – Ben Chapman arrives in Hanoi. Check into Govt Guesthouse.

Wed 5 th Oct
08.15  – Rest of the VUKN delegation arrives in Hanoi on VN54 from London.
Check into the Govt Guesthouse.

14.30 –  Briefing with HE the British Ambassador Giles Lever at his Residence

16.00  – Meeting at the National Assembly with Mr Ngo Duc Manh, Vice- Chairman, Committee on Foreign Affairs, National Assembly, and colleagues

17.00 – Meeting at City Hall with Nguyen Duc Chung, Chairman, Hanoi People’s Committee. Joined by Ambassador Lever.

18.15 – Meeting at the Government Guest House with Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Vu Quang Minh

Presentation of VUKN Recognition Award to Assistant Minister Minh

Dinner hosted by Assistant Minister Minh with former members of the Embassy of Vietnam in London.

Call by John Callow, accompanied by David Priestley, on the VP of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour and affiliated union representatives, to discuss on behalf of the GMB health and safety issues and some possible training in the UK.

Thu 6 th Oct
15.30 – Meeting with Chairman and Committee members of the Vietnam-UK Friendship Association (VUFA), attended by Ambassador Lever and Mrs Laing, Deputy Speaker. Speeches by both Chairmen and Amb Lever. Signing of an MOU between the VUKN and VUFA.
Presentation of VUKN Recognition Award to VUFA Chairman Mr Hoang Van Dung

17.00 – Dinner at a restaurant hosted by VUFA.

Fri 7 th Oct
Check out and fly from Hanoi to Danang. Check in to One Opera Hotel.

Sat 8 th Oct
9.00 – Meeting at Danang University with President Tran Van Nam and Rector Ha of VNUK, to discuss links with Aston University. Further talks held later involving Helen and David.

15.30 – Meeting at City Hall with Dr Dang Viet Dung, Vice Chairman, People’s Committee of Danang City, and others incl Huyn Duc Troung, Chairman, Danang Union of Friendship Orgs., Le Thi Thu Hang, Deputy Director, Foreign Relations, and Investment officials.

10.00 – Visit to the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation (CNCF).Met by Director Trinh and briefed and shown around by Peter Birtwistle, Community Outreach Coordinator and Donna Burr, International Operations Manager.
Presentation of a donation on behalf of the VUKN to the children’s scholarship fund 2016.

12.00 – Meeting and lunch at KPMG Ltd with Chairman and CEO Warrick Cleine and Partner Ninh Van Hien.

14.00 – Meeting at Arup with General Director Neil Harvey and Associate Lai Khac Dinh.

Tue 11 th Oct
08.30 – Meeting with Committee members of the HCMC branch of the Vietnam UK Friendship Association (VUFA), including acting Chairperson Prof Phuong Thien, senior representatives of the Saigontourist Hospitality College and others.

10.00 – Meeting at City Hall with Vice Chairman of HCM City People’s Committee Tran Vinh Tuyen and colleagues.

11.30 – Meeting, at their request, with Executive Committee members of HCMC’s Young Businesspeople’s Association including Eric Nhuan of the City Computer Association and Ms Hue Pham, Chairman and CEO, Ling An International Port.

19.00-2030 – Reception hosted at his residence by British Consul-General Ian Gibbons and his wife to meet Board and other members of the British Business Group in Vietnam (BBGV), including Chairman Ken Atkinson and Director Peter Rimmer.
