High-level delegation from Vietnam visits the UK 28 – 30 June 2022

A high-level delegation from Vietnam made an official visit to the UK from 28 to 30 June, headed by HE Vuong Dinh Hue, Politburo Member and President of the National Assembly. It included Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh, several National Assembly Members, and Ministers or Deputy Ministers from Justice, Education, Planning and Investment, and Foreign Affairs, as well as the Governor of the State Bank. 
 
Among his various engagements, National Assembly President Hue met with a range of UK Parliamentarians, including the Speakers of both the Commons and the Lords. He was also Keynote Speaker at a well-attended Forum on Economy and Trade, alongside Deputy Prime Minister Thanh, the UK’s International Trade Secretary Marie Trevelyan MP, and Trade Envoy Graham Stuart MP.  The FCDO’s Minister for Asia, Amanda Milling MP, was among many guests at the Welcome Dinner. 
 
A small group representing the Vietnam-UK Network (VUKN) was honoured to be given a private meeting with President Hue in the presence of some of his delegation, including HE Ambassador Long. VUKN Chairman Warwick Morris was accompanied by Vice-Chair Bao Ha Pham,  Matt Jackson of KPMG and Rachel Hill of Dragon Capital, joined by Marcus Winsely, Deputy Head of Mission, British Embassy, Hanoi. Warwick described the work and aims of the Network since its foundation in 2013, while President Hue praised the Network’s efforts and welcomed the growth in activity across the board between the two countries. Both agreed on the importance of people-to-people links.
