Lunch in honour of the visit to the UK by President H.E. Mr. Vo Van Thuong, President of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam on the occasion of the Coronation of King Charles III

Vietnam-UK Network leaders, past and present, were among those invited by H.E. Ambassador Long to join a special lunch in honour of the visit to the UK by President H.E. Mr. Vo Van Thuong, President of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam on the occasion of the Coronation of King Charles III.

UK Ministers for Business & Trade; Defence; Energy Security & Net Zero; and for each of the Home Nations were in attendance alongside numerous MPs, Peers, and former Prime Minister Tony Blair and his wife Cherie.

Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son gave a speech on behalf of the President during which he reflected on the accomplishments of the 50 years of diplomatic relations; recent milestones including Viet Nam supporting the UK’s accession to the CPTPP; and looked towards the future relationship between our two countries and collaboration in areas such as climate change, digital transformation, science and technology, and defence and security.

Today, the UK stands as the leading European investor in Viet Nam, and its third largest trading partner from the region.

Secretary of State for Defence, Ben Wallace, and Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons, Rt Hon Nigel Evans MP, both delivered remarks on behalf of HM Government.

The Network was represented by founders Ben Chapman and Warwick Morris (Honorary President and former Chair of UKVN respectively) along with current Chair, Mark Kent, and Vice-Chairs Matt Jackson and James Kenny. Many former HM Ambassadors and fellow diplomats previously posted in Viet Nam were also present, alongside representatives from business, education, culture and charitable organisations working in and with Viet Nam.
