OUCRU’s amazing work protecting the world from disease
The Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) was established in Ho Chi Minh City in 1991 and serves as sentinel for infectious disease in Vietnam and across the wider region. The work of teams like those at OUCRU are critical in understanding and treating diseases that could one day form the basis of the next global pandemic, so it was a great privilege for the VUKN delegation to see the operation first-hand at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases (HTD), which hosts the OUCRU facility.
Thanks again to Prof Guy Thwaites, Director of OUCRU Vietnam, Prof Louise Thwaites, Assoc Prof Dr Le Van Tan, and everyone at this amazing facility for talking us through some of their brilliant life-saving work in the presence of Consul General Alex Smith. It is a powerful symbol of Vietnam-UK cooperation on one of the world’s most important missions.
